A 41-year-old man died after being mauled by his pit bull inside his Bronx apartment on Friday, authorities say.
Officers from the New York Police Department arrived at an apartment around 3:09 a.m. on Friday after receiving a call about a dog biting its owner, police told USA TODAY in a statement Sunday.
The police department did not identify the victim. The statement from police said that EMS took the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers at the scene, who fatally shot the dog after the attack, were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The investigation is ongoing, police say.
